Every time I post a photo of my Eid or Ramadan decorations, I’m always asked about these. And honestly, I always feel a little bad when I have to break the news that I actually made them myself! But don’t worry, here is my mini-tutorial, along with the free template/cut files so you can make your very own DIY Eid Ornaments.

This is exactly what I love about owning a digital cutting machine like the Cricut. It gives me the freedom to create whatever I want, especially when I can’t find what I’m looking for in the shops.

Why I Love Using the Cricut Joy Xtra

To make these, you do need a digital cutting machine. I used my absolute favourite, the Cricut Joy Xtra. It’s the perfect size for projects like this, budget friendly and practical to store. But any Cricut or digital cutting machine will do the trick.

The great things about this project is that the machine does all the hard work for you. You get those crisp, professional lines that make people think you bought these from a shop.

How to Make Your Own 3D Gold Ornaments

It really is so simple. If you want to skip the setup, you can use my Design Space File to go straight to the project, all ready to go.

If you’re using the files manually, follow these easy steps:

  1. Download the Files: Subscribe to my blog to get access to the free SVG/cut files (and other templates/patterns too!)
  2. Upload & Prepare: Upload the images into your cutting machine software and resize them if you fancy. The key is the next step…
  3. The “Pair” Rule: This is the most important part-make sure you are cutting a pair for each ornament as we’ll be gluing two pieces together.
  4. Choose Your Material: I used a glossy mirror gold cardstock. It catches the light beautifully and I think it’s what gives it the shop-bought look!
  5. Cut & Assemble: Once cut your machine has cut them out, simply glue the two pieces together. I wipe any glue marks away with a dampl cloth and then use a bit of white string to thread them up.

Elegant, Simple, and Budget-Friendly

That’s it! Can you believe they’re just made from cardstock and a bit of string? I’ve never stopped getting compliments on them, and now you can make them too. If you make a set, please tag me, I’d love to see how your decorations turn out! And if you don’t have a digital cutting machine, don’t worry- I’ve got some more ideas to share!

love,
